David Drez, Jr., MD, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with Center for Orthopaedics, has been asked to serve on the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s (AOSSM) Self Assessment Committee. This group plans, develops, and evaluates the AOSSM Self Assessment and Board Review examination. This includes writing more than 200 questions each year and serving as peer reviewers for the final 125 questions on the exam. The exam is designed to help learners identify their own strengths and weaknesses in the clinical and practice management areas of orthopaedic sports medicine. The Self Assessment is recognized by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) for Maintenance of Certification credit. The 40 committee members are chosen from among specialists across the country based on their experience and contributions to the field of orthopaedic sports medicine and each serves a four-year term.

Dr. Drez is recognized as a leading national expert in the orthopaedic and sports medicine fields, and has published a large body of research that focuses on athletic injuries and prevention. He serves as a clinical professor of orthopaedics at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, and at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. In recognition of his contributions to the education of orthopedists, the "Dr. David Drez Chair in Orthopedic Sports Medicine” was dedicated at LSU in New Orleans in 2006.
