Dr. Andrew Foret Earns Certification in Hand Surgery
Andrew Foret, MD, hand and wrist specialist with Center for Orthopaedics, has completed the requirements to receive Certification in Surgery of the Hand from the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Foret has previously earned Board Certification from the American Board of Surgery (ABS), and is the only surgeon in Southwest Louisiana to earn the added qualifications in surgery of the hand.
Successful completion of the five-hour Hand Surgery Certifying Examination is required for this hand surgery certification. To be eligible, exam applicants must be board certified in general, plastic, or orthopaedic surgery, in addition to completing the required training in hand surgery.
A qualified hand specialist is trained to diagnose and treat all problems related to the different structures in the hand, wrist, and forearm. The hand is a unique area of the human body that is made up of bone, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves, skin, and blood vessels. These elements must all be in good working order for the hand to function well.
Dr. Foret specializes in hand and wrist surgery and treatment, including forearm and hand fractures, wrist arthroscopy, micro-surgery, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, small joint replacement, nerve compression, pediatric hand surgery, sport-related injuries and more. Dr. Foret has been involved in numerous research projects relating to hand surgery, many of which have been published. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
